Gemma DiPonio (Annechini)
Gemma DiPonio (nee Annechini) September 28, 1923 – August 13, 2018 It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our mother and Nonna, Gemma DiPonio. She was born in Ortona, Italy in a simple time and a simple place. She passed away peacefully on August 13, 2018 after a brief illness while surrounded by those she loved. We were lucky to have her for almost 95 years, but it doesn’t feel long enough to have learned all that we needed to learn. She taught us about food and gardening (don’t plant cucumbers on Friday), rodent maintenance and most of all she taught us how to work hard and provide for those most important. Gemma is survived by her only daughter, Lucia DiPonio (Gaetano), her step daughter Mary Licata (Rino) and her grandchildren – Daniella Czudner (Tal), Stefania Allsop (Brad), Dante DiPonio (Lauren), Gina Coccimiglio (Dan), Sergio Licata (Colleen). Missing her are her 12 great grandchildren – Alexandra, Isaac, Colin, Noah, Tyrus, Maddux, Theodore, Christian, Aleksander, Lukas, Owen, and Caden. She is finally reunited with her parents, Vito and Maria Antonia and her siblings, Domenico, Lisa, Nina, and Adalgisa. Most importantly, she joins her husband, Alessandro DiPonio – 1983 and her beloved grandson, Roberto Licata – 2017 (Deanna). Gemma will be missed by her sister in law and great friend, Teresa DiPonio. Most sincere thanks to the staff at Dolce Vita and Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus, especially Dr. Gary Ing for making her final days as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation would be appreciated. Funeral Visitation at Janisse Funeral Home (519-253-5225) 1139 Ouellette Ave., Windsor on Thursday, August 16th from 5-9 pm and after 8 am Friday. Funeral services from the funeral home on Friday, August 17th at 9 am then to St. Angela Merici Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am. Entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
