Gary Richard Denning, 62, of Lacadena, SK passed away at 4:00 AM on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Rosetown Hospital. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Jacky, his son Jamie and wife Amber, grandchildren Casey and Raylee, his daughter Melissa and his mother Mildred. He is also survived by his brother Darryl (Heather), sister Fay, brother-in-laws Bob (Marie) Opsahl and Rick (Debbie) Opsahl and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his father George Earl Denning, Granville Moreside, grandparents Oliver and Camilla Svuem and Robert Thompson, and mother and father-in-law Mary and Arnold Opsahl.
Gary was born on January 30, 1955 in the Eston Legion Hall to George & Mildred Denning of Lacadena, SK. With his family, he lived on the homestead NE 26-22-18 W3. He took his schooling in Lacadena, Eston and Elrose and graduated in 1973. On April 29, 1977 Gary married Jacky Opsahl from Elrose. Together they had two children Jamie Allan born on April 2, 1980 and Melissa Dawn born November 3, 1982.
Gary loved the farm and ranch life and worked hard at it his whole life. He started ranching at a very early age. In 1972 he started farming and continued farming with his mother until she retired and then he did the farming with his wife and kids. In the mid 90’s he started riding for the Matador Pasture at Kyle and rode there for many years. Gary loved team roping at home and going to West Central Roping’s.
Gary loved his family. His greatest love were his grandchildren, Casey known to Gary as John Henry or Hard Working Henry and Raylee known to Gary as Leanne. Gary had a nickname for everyone. Gary was known to help out his friends and neighbours and it was said by some that he was the best neighbour they ever had. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Gary was the best husband, father, grandfather and son and he will be missed dearly by everyone.
A Memorial Service for Gary was held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Lacadena Community Center in Lacadena, SK. Interment of ashes will be at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3.
