It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Lauchie McMillan on August 9th, 2018. He was 68 yrs old. Gary is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Jennifer (Sean) Horan, grandchildren Madison Horan and Christopher Butler, sisters Gail (Roy) Roberts, Sharon Orrick (Ed Kleisterlee), Eleanor Fisher and brothers Wayne Fisher, Harold Fisher, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews along with the entire Vennard family, all of whom he adored. He was predeceased by his father, Lauchie MacMillan, his mother, Margaret Fisher and brothers Arthur Fisher and Darrol Fisher.
Born July 19th, 1950 in Creston, BC., Gary resided in the Wells, BC area for most of his childhood. Gary began his working career with the CN Rail at the age of 15 and continued there until he retired from his Supervising position in September 2005. He loved his job and the people he worked with. He kept himself busy after retirement taking odd jobs for a period of time until he finally decided to enjoy life instead.
He was also a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Maple Ridge #2831, joining in 2002. At the time of his passing he held the position of Vice-President/President Elect for the BC Provincial Eagles Aerie, a position of which he was so very proud to hold. He was looking forward to his term as President in 2019-2020. He believed in the rituals and the precept of “People Helping People”. He worked tirelessly, volunteering his time with that organization in their goal of raising monies for all the charities they support. It is within this organization that he finally found his soul mate, Judy, a woman who shared the same passion and love to help others and give of themselves, who kept him on his toes with humourous loving banter and who ultimately cared for him through the time they were together. He stole her heart and they were married at the Maple Ridge Eagles Hall on his birthday, July 19th, 2015, surprising family and friends who were expecting a birthday celebration.
Gary loved to be around people, making them laugh and smile. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a kind, considerate and compassionate man. He believed in being a gentleman and treating others with respect.
A Celebration Of Life and Eagle Service will be held at 3:00pm, September 2, 2018 at the Maple Ridge Eagles Hall, 23461 Fern Crescent, Maple Ridge BC., for those who wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Gary’s name to the Mission Hospice Society or a charity of your choice.
