Garry Morris Thompson
December 14, 1934 – November 27, 2018
Garry Morris Thompson of Whitecourt, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 years after a long battle with COPD and heart disease.
Garry lived in Whitecourt for 60 years raising three children with his wife, Alverna at his side. He farmed the land on House Mountain, worked in the oilfield with Black Gold, Flint and Kana Oilfield. He drove cat for Mr. Marcellus, he did carpentry work for the government of Alberta constructing the Carson Pegasus Provincial Park and his last employment before retirement was working for the Alberta Forestry issuing fire permits in the Whitecourt District for fifteen years.
Garry was predeceased by his father Morris Thompson; his mother May Bessie (Thompson) Bowman; sister Ileanna Legault of Prince George, BC.
Left to cherish his memory is Garry’s wife of 60 years Alverna (Roth) Thompson; sons Roland (Joanne), Bradley (Theresa); daughter Lana (Thompson) Brown; grandchildren Tom (Mandy), Doug (Jess), Lisa (Jeff), Pat, Jamie, Cody, Corey (Tara), Trevor (Meaghan), and Mandi (Tyler); great-grandchildren Adeline, Emmett, Eloise, Kaydance, Kameron, Kyson, Aubrie, Liam, Bentley, Brielle, Kylie, Emery, Carter; one sister Lillian Bowden of Victoria, BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
A special thank you to extended family and friends, the doctors and staff of the Whitecourt Health Care Center, Paramedics, staff of the University Hospital; specifically Dr. Shanks and staff, Dr. Bideau and staff, doctors and nurses from 5A7-C-ICU Unit who supported who supported him the last days of his life with compassion, empathy and professionalism – thank you.
A Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Whitecourt United Church, (5201 – 50 Street), with Reverend Rita Milne, officiating. Lunch and fellowship will follow at the Whitecourt Senior Circle, (5212 – 50 Street).
