Fransishyn Paul 2018

Fransishyn Paul
August 10, 1937 – November 23, 2018

Paul Fransishyn, beloved husband of the late Lydia Fransishyn of Canora, SK, passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on November 23, 2018, at the age of 81 years.
Paul was born August 10, 1937, to Michael and Mary (Byblow) Fransishyn in Sheho, SK. The family moved to Alysham in October of 1944 then to Canora in October of 1948, settling on a farm northwest of Canora.
At the age of eighteen, Paul went to Winnipeg to obtain a course in mechanics, but his passion was driving big trucks. He drove semi trailers for a few years through Calgary and British Columbia. He then returned home and gained employment with Wyonzek Construction before accepting a position as a semi driver for Canadian National Railway. He continued driving truck for fifteen years until he eventually took over the family farm. Paul frequented the Peavey Mart store in Yorkton, SK where he met the store manager, Lydia Romaniuk. They were united in marriage on October 11, 1980. The couple worked and farmed together until their retirement in 2003.
Paul had joined the military reserve in Yorkton at the age of twenty-five years. Years later, as active members of the Canadian Legion, both he and Lydia held positions as president for several years.
Paul and Lydia also enjoyed fishing, boating, playing cards and watching old movies together until Lydia’s passing in February 2013. In October 2013, Paul moved into a rental unit in Canora. He continued to enjoy his morning coffee with friends as well as going to the casino. After a few years, as his health declined, Paul became a resident of the Canora Gateway Lodge, where he continued to reside until his passing on November 23, 2018. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary Fransishyn; wife, Lydia; brothers, Paul, in infancy, and Maurice; sister, Olga Genik; parents-in-law, Wasyl and Annie Romaniuk; and his brothers-in-law, Bill Callan, Chuck Sawden and Mike Romaniuk.
He is survived by his sisters, Jean Callan, Annie Sawden and Sylvia (Henry) Tratch; sisters-in-law, Mary Scodellaro, Emily (Jack) Templeman, Beverly Fransishyn and Joanne Romaniuk; and brothers-in-law, Orest (Sylvia) Romaniuk, Danny (Linda) Romaniuk, Terry Romaniuk and Peter Genik; as well as his nieces, nephews, extended family and the many friends he made in his lifetime. In Paul’s honour, a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2018 and the Funeral Service celebrated at 10:00 a.m.,
