Francis Michael Hall passed away peacefully June 23rd, 2018 at Our Lady of The Rosary Hospital Extended Care in Castor AB.
He was born Sept 2, 1926 in Clarksville, Pennsylvania. He enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in Pittsburgh in the Spring of 1944 at the age of 17. He took part in the invasion of Okinawa and was wounded in 1945. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and a Medal of Valor and was discharged after his recovery in Hawaii the same year.
Francis came to Canada in 1949 and made his way to Castor where he worked as a carpenter along with Leo Kneller. They built the Community Hall, the Arena (twice), the Shangri La, Catholic Church and the Paintearth School. Francis continued building with his son Michael (F and M Hall Construction)…the United Church, the Drug Store, Magnet Store and approximately 50 homes.
He was the founder of the Castor Gym Club and the Boxing Club. He also served a term on Town Council and was an avid golfer. In September of 1953, Francis married Judy Wetter.
Francis is predeceased by his parents Vance and Mary Seiple, brother in law Ron Greer, his in laws Gus and Katie Wetter, Wesley and Heather Wetter, Kaye Wetter and Lill Wetter and other family gone before.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 64 years Judy Hall, son Michael (Arlene) Hall of Blackfalds, daughters Lana Hall (Castor) and Jennifer Hall of Taber; grandsons Vance Hall, Clinton Allen and Brandon Allen; sister Mary Lou Grier of Seattle; nephew Bob (Eleanor) Frazer; brother in law Ken Wetter of Castor and sister in law Eunice (Peter) (Wetter) Huf of Germany.
At Francis’ request there will be a private family service held. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your own choice.
