Obituary for Fr. Joseph LeBlanc OP
Philippe Joseph LeBlanc, OP died peacefully on December 30, 2017 after a brief hospitalization. He entered the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) in 1956 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1961. Fr. LeBlanc was associate pastor of St. Dominic’s Parish (Mississauga) for several years before engaging in a life-long ministry dedicated to social justice and human rights- locally, nationally and internationally. He served as Executive Director of Peel Community Services and then St Stephen’s Community House; National Program Officer, Human Rights and International Affairs for the United Church of Canada; Director of Programs for Save the Children Canada. From 1996-2008 he was the Permanent Delegate of the Order of Preachers to the Human Rights Commission in Geneva.
Fr. LeBlanc was born in Moncton in 1934. He is the son of the late Anna Robichaud and Alexis LeBlanc. He is survived by his brother John (Ruthie) of Waltham, MA, and sister Diane (Bill) Qaugliozzi of Billerica, MA and sisters-in-law Helena and Dorothy of Moncton, NB. He is predeceased by his sister Pauline Kirke and bothers Edgar and Paul. Philippe will be missed by many nephews and nieces as well as his dear friends the Pecoskie family.
The Funeral wake will take place at Sacre-Coeur Parish, (381 Sherbourne Street) at the corner of Carlton Avenue and Sherbourne Street, on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. Vigil Payers at 6:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection on Thursday, January 4th, 2018 at 10 a.m. Interment will take place in the Dominican Cemetery in St-Hyacinth, QC, at a later date.
