Ferne M. “Tun” Rafuse
1929-2018
Ferne Mae (Tun) Rafuse, age 88, of Gold River, passed away peacefully
at home on January 24th, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Born in Western Shore on July 17th, 1929, she was a daughter of Rennie
Swinimer (Rafuse).
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Gordon Albert
Rafuse; son, Carson Peter; son-in-law, Robert Myra; brother, William
(Bill) Rafuse; mother, Rennie and step-father, Larry Swinimar (Gold
River).
Ferne’s life was dedicated to her family. She was a loving mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother and will be forever missed by her
children, Garnet (Linda) Rafuse, Jane (Wayne) Eisnor and Lynn Myra;
daughter-in-law, Thelma Rafuse and special nephew, Michael Hamm; seven
grandchildren, Jason, Ben (Nicki), Shondalee (Christopher), Shannon
(James), Amanda (Tom), Al (Tia) and Caleb; seven great-grand children,
Ryley, Carson, Monica, Sadie, Samuel, Isla and Isaac. She was a
devoted sister to Freddie (Carolyn) Swinimer, Dolores McLaughlin and
Opal Demont; along with her many nieces and nephews, who held a
special place in her heart.
Although Ferne was 88, she still had an active social life and placed
a high value on her long standing friendships. She enjoyed playing
cards, a hot cup of coffee, her weekly hair appointments and a good
laugh. Although a small women, she had great strength of character and
conviction to her beliefs and determination which we have all learned
from.
We would like to thank the first responders, EMT’s and the staff of
South Shore Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Anne Chaisson, for their
exceptional care.
She was loved by many and will truly be missed. How lucky we are to
have had something that makes saying goodbye so hard.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 1st
2018 at St. Martin’s Anglican Church, Martin’s River.
Burial at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Anglican Church (Gold
River), Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of
choice.
