Obituary for Ewfrozyna Drynych
Ewfrozyna “Rose” Drynych of Edmonton, Mother, Baba, Pra Baba fell asleep in the Lord on January 25, 2018 at the age of 98 years.
She was born in the village of Bratkivse, Stry in Ukraine, to parents, Malania and Kornell Boyko. She and her husband, Roman, arrived in Canada in 1947 to Opal, AB to settle with sister, Anna and husband, Hnat Barabash until they moved to Edmonton with children, Lubomyr (Roy) and Nadia. Here they raised their family and were members of St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Rose was employed by the Hudson Bay Company downtown in Edmonton until her retirement after 25 years. She and Roman spent many happy years vacationing in Hawaii and trips to Eastern Canada and Ukraine. She was predeceased by her husband, Roman in 2008.
Ewfrozyna is survived by her son, Lubomyr (Evangeline) of Calgary, daughter, Nadia Ritchie of Edmonton; four granddaughters, Tasha (Scott) of Calgary, Elana (Ashley), Lara (Cody) and Tamara (Donald), all of Edmonton; ten great-grandchildren, Jaxton, Darby, Maxim, Hudson, Harper, Marley, Luxie, Nixon, Carver and Augusta. She is also survived by family in Ukraine.
She enjoyed her life at Laurel Heights Retirement Residence and was happy to make new friends and enjoy group activities and events.
The family wishes to thank all staff at the Misericordia Community Hospital, Laurel Heights Retirement Residence, the University of Alberta Hospital, Capital Care Grandview, the Grey Nuns Community Hospital and Dr. Aradi for their compassionate care.
Prayer Service Friday, February 2, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church,
11305 – 95 A Street, Edmonton.
Divine Liturgy Saturday, February 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church. St. George Clergy officiating with interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church in memory of Rose to celebrate a Mass in her name.
