EVELYN PARKER
September 13, 1917 ~ October 8, 2018
It is with sad hearts, we the family of Evelyn Jane Parker, of Brooklyn/South Rawdon, Hants County, announce her passing on Monday, October 8, 2018, at Haliburton Place, Windsor, at the age of 101.
Born on September 13, 1917, in Hillsvale, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Watson and Harriett “Hattie” (Wood) Burgess.
Evelyn devoted her life to her family and spent many hours helping on the family dairy farm in South Rawdon. She had worked at the Masonic Home, Windsor, and enjoyed working in the USA for 11 years, caring for senior patients, in nursing homes and also in private homes.
Upon retiring she settled in Brooklyn, Hants County. Evelyn was a member of the Centre Rawdon United Church, and was a honorary member of the Newport Jolly Seniors and was the founding president. She was a life member and charter member of the South Rawdon Womens Institute and a member of South Rawdon Museum. While living in South Rawdon she was active in the church and community affairs. During Second World War, she volunteered in the RCAF and received a medal from Ground Observer Corps.
She enjoyed hand crafts, antiques, animals (especially horses), sports, such as hockey, fishing and especially deer hunting and not missing too many shots.
Evelyn was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and will be sadly missed by sons, Laurie Austin Parker and wife Gladys, South Rawdon; Murray Everett Parker and wife Linda. She loved and was loved by six grandchildren, Patti (Brian) Perrier, Timothy (Cheri) Parker, Michelle (Andrew) Hoogerwerf, Jeffery (Cindy) Parker, Kenneth Parker, and Thomas (Kate) Parker; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Austin Parker (1994); granddaughter-in-law, Rhonda Parker; step mother, Emma (Marriett) Burgess; brothers and wives, Scott (Kathern), James (Belle), Edgar (Ruth), Clyde (Erna), Ralph (Dorothy), John (Hazel), and Ainsworth (Mildred) Burgess; sister and husband, May (John) Cameron.
Many thanks to the caregivers at Haliburton Place.
Evelyn will be sadly missed by those who loved her but always in our thoughts.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King St., P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0.
No visitation by request.
A Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2018, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Garnet Parker officiating. A private family interment will be held in the South Rawdon United Church Cemetery, South Rawdon.
Donations in memory of Evelyn, may be made to the South Rawdon United Church Cemetery, or Haliburton Place, Windsor.
