Obituary Overview
Lovingly Remembered
Eugenia Brander, beloved wife of Mr. Alfred Brander, of Langdon, AB passed away at the age of 83 years.
Eugenia was born and raised in the mountain town of Coleman, Alberta with her sister Zofia and brother Michael. She worked at the Chateau Lake Louise in-between pursuing her Teachers’ Degree at the University Of Calgary. She settled into the farming community near the town of Langdon, raising three children with her loving husband of over 62 years, Alfred Brander.
Her main employment was at the Indus Elementary School where she taught Remedial Reading and Special Education classes. Eugenia enjoyed working, and formed a close friendship with her fellow teachers. They became known as the Originals and they remain as a close-knit group of friends to this day.
Eugenia was extremely fair, generous, and kind. There was always an open door and an extra plate of food for all who entered her home. She loved volunteering at hospitals, donating to charities, organizing community events, and was instrumental in the publication of the Langdon History Book. She was a member of the W.I. Club (Women’s Institute) for many years.
Despite several health issues throughout most of her life, Eugenia’s stamina and determination never wavered. Her strength defied many odds, and she always handled these hard times with grace.
Most importantly, her family was her greatest love and source of pride. Sharing holidays and special occasions were everything to Eugenia. Every moment with her four grandchildren filled her heart and brought her joy. She loved reading, television, music, theatre, cooking, gardening, shopping, animals, traveling to various places (especially Las Vegas), and family gatherings.
Eugenia will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her loving husband Alfred; her children Glenda (Paul), Robert (Tracey), and Barbara; and 4 grandchildren. Eugenia was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Mary Stelmachovich; and Uncle Pete.
A Celebration of Eugenia’s Life will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home (Prairie View Chapel, 1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Alberta SPCA (417904 – 118 Ave. NW, Edmonton, AB T5S 2W3, Ph: 780-447-3600).
