Obituary Overview
Eugene Pantella
“Alvin” was born on August 27, 1943 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Michael and Petrunella Pantella. He grew up in the town of Dana, and was an adventurer and trouble-maker from the start. At the age of sixteen he moved to Saskatoon to complete Grade 12 before entering the Chemical Engineering program at University of Saskatchewan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1965. Gene began a 35 year career in oil and gas with Imperial Oil, followed by Banff Oil, Westburne, Highfield Oil and Gas Limited, Scientific Software-Intercomp, and Schlumberger-GeoQuest. His roles were varied including hydrocarbon recovery specialist, project manager, vice president, consultant, pipeliner and production engineer. His domestic and international responsibilities saw him travel the world. He was larger than life; an adventurer, explorer and multi-linguist who brought a passion for culture to his family and children. He was a teacher, father and friend to Marc (Megan) Pantella, Andrea (George) McGeachie, Carmen Peccie and Janna (Chris) Ryan. Precious time shared in fishing boats, kitchens, gardens, campgrounds and the cabin created lasting memories of laughter, learning and discussion. Over the years Gene shared these same passions and experiences with the communities of Calgary and Wakaw. He developed strong bonds with those he met, shared stories of adventure and achievements, and inspired others with his passion and determination. His passions for gardening, foraging, cooking, designing and building connected him with friends and community. He is survived by his children; sister Madeline (Morris) Sluchinski, brother Phil (Sandi) Pantella, sister-in-law Myrna; grandchildren Jessica, Gene and Georgie; along with special nieces, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Michael, mother Petrunella and brother Dan. Prayers will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. from Park Funeral Home, 311 Third Avenue North in Saskatoon. The Divine Liturgy will be held Friday, December 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from The Dormition of the Blessed Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church, 120 – 105 Street West in Saskatoon, celebrated by Rev.
