Ethel Hlewka
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ethel Hlewka on January 19, 2018 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Ethel was born to Edward and Florence Lastowsky on July 18, 1940. She was the oldest of four children. Ethel grew up in Prince Albert, attending Queen Mary and the Academy of Presentation of Mary schools; the latter from which she graduated. Ethel married the love of her life, Donald Hlewka on July 25, 1959. She started her career in the bowling business at Lumar Lanes in Prince Albert and proceeded over the next 50 years, to build a successful family business in Minto Bowl. Ethel is lovingly survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald Hlewka; her two sons, Don Jr (Shelley) and Derek (Kim); her five grandchildren, Lindsey (Andrew), Jae-Lyn (Aaron), Leanne (Brant), Meagan (Craig) and Mark (Carrie); her one precious great-granddaughter, Louella; her sister, Linda Hewitt; her brother, Miles (Diane) Lastowsky; her brothers-in-law, Clifford (Judy) Hlewka, Wally (Adeline) Hlewka; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Florence Lastowsky; her brother, Arthur Lastowsky; her brother-in-law, Dwight Hewitt; her father and mother-in-law, William and Ann Hlewka; and her sister-in-law, Brenda Hlewka. The family would like to thank Jamie McGuin for his kindness during this time. A very special thank you to Dr. Andrea Johnson and the nursing staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital for their exceptional care of Ethel during the last few weeks of her illness. Ethel’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Wesley United Church, 65-11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the St. Paul’s Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
