Obituary for
Elizabeth Christie
Elizabeth Muriel Christie
1944 – 2018
Elizabeth, known to many as Liz, Betty or Gramma, passed away suddenly at the Amherst Hospital on Sunday morning, June 24, just days before her 74th birthday. Born in O’Leary on June 28, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Waldo and Marjorie (Sharpe) Phillips. Elizabeth loved her family above all else and was an active member of her community. As a young girl, she was involved in the 4H Club and Girl Guides, having earned her All Round Cord. She carried on her love of Guiding to become a Girl Guide leader for many years in Boutilier’s Point, NS. Elizabeth was a volunteer within her church, having been the organist at St. James Anglican Church and served as a member of the Anglican Church Women (ACW). She loved to walk on the beach collecting beach glass and looked forward to social time with friends and family. She loved to garden, travel and work on various projects; she wasn’t one to sit still for long. After leaving O’Leary, PEI at the age of 18, she moved to Halifax and worked for MT&T until her retirement at the young age of 49. She was married to her late husband, Leslie for 25 years and lived in Boutilier’s Point for most of that time. 10 years ago, she moved to Oxford, NS to be with Glenn Marchant and they enjoyed their years together at the cottage in Pugwash and their “winter home” in Florida. She is survived by her son, Phillip (Caroline), Saint John, New Brunswick; daughter, Nancy Anne (Chris) Foran, Stillwater Lake; grandchildren, Sydney, Jemma, Evan, Lilla and Pippa; brother, Eric (Fairly), O’Leary, PEI; nephew, Terry (Christina) and great-nephews Noah and Josh, O’Leary, PEI. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her nephew Kent Phillips. Elizabeth will always be remembered for her incredible strength, kindness, and work ethic. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 PM on June 27 in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s Cove Road, Upper Tantallon. A celebration of Elizabeth’s life and committal will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 28th, at St. James’ Anglican Church, Boutilier’s Point. Reception to follow at St. James Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Church Memorial Fund and the Arthritis Society. Online condolences can be made to www.rawalker.ca
