Elizabeth Betty Donnelly Lapierre 1933 2018

Obituary for
Elizabeth “Betty” Donnelly (Lapierre)
DONNELLY, Elizabeth “Betty” Jane (nee Lapierre) – Passed away peacefully at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 at the age of 84. Loving wife of Gilbert Donnelly Pembroke, mother of Dale Donnelly (Lori) Pembroke, Tony Donnelly (Lisa Edmonds) Pembroke, Gary Donnelly King City, Richard Donnelly (Jennifer Edmonds) Fort Collins, Colorado and Mary Donnelly (Santa Monica, California). Cherished grandmother of Austin Donnelly, Whitney Donnelly (Daenis Camire), Justin Donnelly, Karli Donnelly, Briana Donnelly, Spencer Donnelly, Jaclyn Donnelly, Ellen Donnelly and Michael Donnelly. Dear sister of Donna Donnelly (John), Marilyn Jennings (late Jack), Lois Lapierre (Greg Lawrence) and Lou Lapierre (Donna). Betty will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Anthony and Mary Jane Lapierre, her brother Larry Lapierre (late Edrene), Noreen D’Arcy (late Clarence), Jean Schreader (Dawson and Greg) and Margaret Gleason (William “Ellie”). Betty was born on Allumette Island, Que in 1933. In 1954 she married the love of her life Gilbert Donnelly. Friends for over 68 years, they met over a piece of butterscotch pie at a church supper in St. Joseph’s, Que. Betty grew up working on the Lapierre family farm which created the character, practicality and work ethic that she held and instilled in her family. While working in the office at Markus Construction for 28 years, she and Gilbert raised 4 relatively well-behaved lads and lovely daughter. Betty lived for one thing – her family. You were always well represented if you had mom in your corner. Just ask Gilbert about that. In additions to how she raised her family, Betty was very involved and proud of her grandchildren. Her focus were her grandchildren whenever they were present. Perhaps the greatest example of Betty’s character and perseverance was how she handled the loss of her leg 7-years ago. Despite being in her 80’s she remained tenacious at doing whatever she could despite her handicap. Her most loyal servant, Gilbert, remained by her side caring for her until her last breath. We are forever grateful for patient nursing staff and doctors at the Pembroke Regional Hospital during such an emotional time for our family. Additionally, we thank the nurses in our family, Mary, Lori and Jennifer who helped ensure Betty was comfortable in her final days. We will all miss Betty, but we have a lifetime of beautiful memories to remember her by. Her strong Catholic faith now leads her directly to heaven – where she so rightfully belongs. We bid goodbye with one of her common sayings as we would leave – “Make sure you behave yourself.” The family will receive relatives and friends at the
