Elaine passed away at Birchwood Terrace on the morning of April 16 at the age of 86. She was born on July 24, 1931 in Norman to Robert (Bert) and Laura McLay. She married Henry Joseph Spalton on December 28, 1963 at St. Louis Church in Keewatin. They were together for 12 short years before he died in 1975.
In Mom’s earlier years, she played baseball and loved her sports. She was a butcher in Norman, a clerk at Macleods Store before marriage. After marrying Dad she was a homemaker and stay at home Mom. She loved baking especially butter tarts and meat pies. She loved Christmas time. She loved spoiling everyone with her sweet treats.
Mom was a member of St. Louis Church and a member of the Sacred Heart/St. Louis CWL for many years. She loved all sports baseball, hockey, curling her favourites. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play hockey, soccer and baseball. Mom was very proud of her grandchildren and her new great grandchild.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband Henry, by her Mom and Dad Bert and Laura McLay; sister and brother in law Gerry and Porky Crandall; brother and sister in law Gib and Dorothy McLay; brother Terry McLay. Mom was also predeceased by Dad’s family Joseph and Clara Spalton; Tom and Betty Spalton; Laura Spalton; Frank and Cec Spalton; Ed and Grete Spalton; Helen and George VanWalleghem and Phil and Donna Spalton. Also special friends Dorothy Crowe and Bernice Letain.
Mom was very proud of her daughters Jeanine (Steven) Meadows and Christine(Paul) Donnelly. Her much loved grandchildren Alison(Dustin), Ryan (Hope) and Conor, and great grandchild Cole.
She is also survived by her brother Bryan (Peggy) McLay and family of Muskegon Michigan, sister in law Linda McLay and family of North Bay Ontario, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also had an extended family that always thought of mom, Dawn and John Skeavington(family), Brett and Ev Crowe (family) and Barb Peterson.
We would like to thank Dr. Sawatzky, Mike Limerick, Dr. Bowerman and the staff at Birchwood Terrace for their compassion to mom.
As per Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place. A service will be held at 11:00 am at Brown’s Funeral Home on Saturday April 28, 2018.
