1957-2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Edgar James Smith
announce his passing on February 16th, 2018.
Born on March 9th, 1957 in Fredericton
Junction, he was the son of Kathleen Smith and the late Everett Smith
of Waterville and husband of 40 years to Debbie Smith.
Survived by his wife, Debbie of Waterville, NB; his son Cory
Smith of Waterville, NB; his daughters Ashley Smith of Waterville, NB
and Erin Sullivan (Corey) of Geary, NB; his little buddy his grandson
JT of Geary, NB and his mother Kathleen Smith of Waterville, NB. His
siblings Jerry (Marilyn) of Thessalon, Ontario, Elwood (Brenda) of
Geary, NB, Anthony (Lisa) of Waterville, NB and Absaslom of
Waterville, NB, as well as many cousins, niece and
nephews.
Predeceased by his father Everett, and his siblings Douglas
and Anna.
Edgar grew up on the family farm where his spent his
childhood and teen years in the barnyard and hay fields with his
father and siblings, learning to drive a tractor, clean out the barn
and throw hay bales at a young age. Edgar lived his whole life in
Waterville, building his family’s home just down the road
from the farm where he and Debbie raised their three
children.
Edgar was a Shift Operator at the UNB Central Heating Plant
for 34 years. The boys at the plant became a second family to Edgar
and he will be missed. He was a member of the Geary Baptist
Church where he was involved in the AWANA program, Vacation Bible
School, choir and drama productions and an usher. He was a member of
the Singers of the Faith and sang at several nursing homes, hospitals
and special services. Edgar was the Chairman of the Geary French Lake
Waterville Cemetery Committee. He was a volunteer at the Geary
Elementary Community School serving breakfast and hot lunch to the
students and staff and participating in special events. He will be
greatly missed by all who met him and had the pleasure to work
alongside him. The community of Geary has lost a great
man!
Visitation will be held at the Geary Baptist Church on
Monday, February 19th, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.
The funeral service will take place at the Geary Baptist Church on
Tuesday, February 20th at 2 pm with Pastor
Robert Weaver and Rev. Greg Sparkes as officiants.
Donations can be made to the Geary Home and School
Association or the Geary French Lake Waterville Cemetery
Community.
