Obituary for Dunnreath “Dunny” Luckman
Mournfully passed away suddenly March 18, 2018 in Ottawa, Ontario at age 87. Born in Regina Saskatchewan, December 24, 1930, daughter of Jack and Lucia Dudley, deceased. Dunny was predeceased by her siblings: Jack, Jim and Olive; Florence (Flo) Dudley, sister-in-law, Bill McArter brother-in-law. Dunny lived a happy childhood while growing up during the depression years, she and her siblings were fortunate to have parents who owned a local grocery store and a cottage at the lake where the children spent there summers. Sadly Dunny developed Rheumatic fever at age 7 which developed into Rheumatoid arthritis at age 20. After meeting her husband Clare at work, in Regina Saskatchewan, where she was a secretary and he a salesman. The two were happily married and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dunny supported her husband through University for his Bachelors in Engineering degree while attending University of Manitoba. They later moved to Toronto, Cleveland and then back to Toronto where she gave birth to their first 2 children, Brent and Glen. Dunny’s Rheumatoid Arthritis flared up and her condition became acute after giving birth in 1961 to twins, Brian and Tanis. Dunny’s happy attitude in the face of great chronic pain caused by this active disease as evidenced by damage to all her joints over 57 years, is a testament to her courage and character as a wife and mother. She worked hard to protect her family from her illness in-spite of the demands that surely caused her to feel burdened, and overwhelmed. Dunny will be remembered by her children and those who loved her, by her endless courage and unwillingness to complain about or even mention her illness. She was inspiring to all. Dunny was a shining star in the family, a positive, selfless, kind, loving woman who sacrificed many of her own wants and needs for her ex-husband and children. Her patience and admirable ability to listen intently to her children and husband made her an ideal parent and supportive wife.
Survived by her sons: Brent (Elena), Glen ( Sarah), Brian (Lina) and her daughter Tanis: and her 6 grandchildren; Kevin, Jody, Sarah, Logan, Kennedy and Kade. In her golden years Dunny lived at the Duke of Devonshire, next door to her loving sister Olive, (recently deceased, December 13, 2017). The two enjoyed each others company, family get-togethers, shopping, going on trips and long drives especially in the fall going into the Gatineau Hills to see the changing of the leaves before winters onset.
