Obituary for
Dr. Margaret Edna Huntley
HUNTLEY, Margaret Edna, (nee Noad), MB, FRCP (C), September 23, 1928 – November 12,
2018. Our mother passed quietly in her sleep of natural causes at her home, Granite Ridge
Retirement Residence, Gravenhurst, with family by her side. She lived an eventful,
accomplished life. As a child she was evacuated from London, England during the Second
World War. She attended medical school at the Royal Free Hospital in London, graduating in
1955 and first practised as a pediatrician. She survived polio. She married our father in 1954,
gave birth to two of us in London in 1959 (Katherine) and 1960 (Nicola). In 1961 our family
moved to Toronto, Canada where our mother requalified as a physician, completed a residency
in psychiatry and gave birth to Sarah in 1964. Further professional accomplishments include
more than 20 years as a staff psychiatrist at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and 10 years as
Director of the Toronto Child Psychotherapy Program. She loved travel, the opera and
gardening, and in later life she split her time between Toronto and her beloved Muskoka. She is
survived by her sad, proud daughters Kathy Geer, Nicola Huntley (Glenn) and Sarah Huntley
(Kevin) as well as her loving granddaughter Leanne Geer. Private family service in Bracebridge
with cremation to follow. Our heartfelt thanks to the caring team at Granite Ridge. In lieu of
