Douglas Henry “Doug” Sheehan
Sheehan, Douglas Henry “Doug”, age 89, of Dartmouth, passed away on December 13, 2018 in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home.
Born in London, England, he was a son of the late Olive (White) and Henry Sheehan. Doug was an “evacuee” during the war years to escape the Blitz and rocket attacks. After the war ended in 1945 he attended Woolwich Polytech, He was unable to complete his studies there due to the family moving to Canada in 1946, on the Cunard Liner Aquitania, via New York. Then they travelled by train to Nova Scotia.
Doug joined Remington-Rand company, servicing office equipment for many years and later worked at CBC in the film library until he retired. He was an active Soccer player for many years, with the Halifax Shipyard Soccer team. A lover of all animals, he was happiest when feeding the wild birds or taking his dogs for a walk on Lawrencetown beach. He had a great interest in Geology and Mineralogy and was always reading-up on these subjects. He was a wonderful and kind husband and father and loyal to all his friends and associates.
Doug is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne (Fox) Sheehan; daughters Patricia (Peter) Fevens; Kathleen Sheehan; sons, Michael (Juanitte), Dennis; daughter-in-law Hazel; grandchildren, Christopher, Thomas, Matthew, Jeffrey, and Emily. He is also survived by siblings, Eileen Altwasser, Donald (Betty), Reginald (Barbara) and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his step-mother Hazel (Heffler) Sheehan; siblings, Beryl Sheehan, and Terrance.
Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will take place at 11am on Wednesday December 19th in Immanuel United Baptist Church, 86 Montague Road, Lake Loon, Rev. Les Ingraham officiating with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Feed NS or the SPCA of Nova Scotia.
