Doug passed away peacefully at Muskoka Landing, Huntsville on January 25, 2018.
Doug leaves behind his daughter, Susan and husband Bob Scott, grandchildren Chris and Bonnie, Lindsay and Rob, and Heather and Paul. Also two great granddaughters, Morgan and Marley Scott. He also leaves behind sister and brother in law, Mary Anne and Jack Liddy, brother in law, Jim Shuttleworth, cousins, Chuck, Margaret, and Susan Dingman and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Millie, and daughter Margaret.
Doug was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on August 31, 1929, and lived in Northeast, Pennsylvania until he was 14 years old. After his father died, he and his mother moved to Canada -taking up residence in Stratford, Ontario. At that time, he had dual citizenship, but one of his proudest moments was when he relinquished his American citizenship and became a Canadian citizen.
He attended the University of Toronto and became a Chemical Engineer, graduating in 1951. Upon graduation, he took a job with Kimberly Clark at the mill in Kapuskasing, met his soon to be wife, Millie. Doug spent all of his working life with Kimberly Clark in a variety of positions and locations. In 1978 an opportunity arose to return to Canada and become mill manager at the Kimberly Clark plant in Huntsville, Ontario. He stayed in that position until his retirement in 1992.
Throughout his working career Doug travelled extensively – both on business and for pleasure. He and Millie, and Margie (until her death in 1992) travelled the world, and always had amazing stories to tell. He loved reminiscing with friends and family about both his work life and his travels.
