It is with great sadness the Tarapasky family announces the passing of our dear Dorothy, wife, step Mom, sister, aunt, on June 21st, 2018 due to complications of late stage dementia.
Dorothy is survived by Ed her loving husband of 18 years, step sons Mitchell (Patti) and James (Judy, Jason, Shannon, Erica), brothers Gary, Brian, and Randy, and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents Charles and Phyllis, brothers Kent and Chuck, and sister Lynne.
Dorothy was born Dorothy Jean Young in Chatham, Ontario on December 14th, 1934. Growing up in Chatham she moved to Toronto and began working for Air Canada in 1958. Dorothy had a long distinguished career with Air Canada in Toronto working at Pearson Airport and eventually moving to Winnipeg to work in reservations at the Richardson Building before retiring in 1991 with 33 years 4 months service.
Dorothy loved to travel and visited many exotic countries around the world. She was very active and loved to walk everywhere.
In 1999 Dorothy met Ed Tarapasky at an Air Canada retirement party. Dorothy invited Ed to dinner. Shortly afterwards the rest shall we say is history. The two were married in September 2000 in Chatham, Ontario and have spent the last 18 years as loving companions travelling, cooking, and experiencing all of life’s great moments.
Dorothy and Ed honeymooned in Hawaii and at the start of each year they vacationed at the Palm Gardens in Barbados. They enjoyed the company of their returning friends during those years. They will all fondly remember her.
With Dorothy joining the Tarapasky family came many years enjoying Tara’s JEMM at Hillside Beach. Dorothy while hating the bugs and heat loved to cook, bake, and enjoyed the bubbly. She loved the parties including the Bocce Tournaments, Sunsets, Happy Hours at the “Birch”, and crib tournaments in Grand Marais.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by everyone and fondly remembered for her laughter, good humor, and love of life.
I lieu of flowers the family kindly requests you donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
Many Thanks to the great staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital for the care they provided in Dorothy’s last days.
