Obituary for
Dorothy Edith Brown (Devine)
February 2, 1927 – December 11, 2018
Fighting to the End, Dorothy has left us to be with her husband (Denny) and son (Doug). She firmly believes they will meet up and her family will all be together in the end. Daughter of the late Edith and William Devine, sister of the late Gordon Devine (Margaret) and Bertha Coburn (Francis). Wife of the late Denvil Brown, mother of David (Karen), Debra (Jim), late Douglas, Darlene (Joe). Grandmother (Nana) of Rob (Catherine), Alex (Amanda), Destinée, Matthew, Michael, Mitchell, Victoria, Great-grandmother of Avery and Paige, Aunt of William and James (Roxanne) and Great Aunt of Jesse and Kelly. Survived by several cousins and friends. From a farm girl to moving to the big city, Dorothy embraced it all with a practical, determined attitude. She supported her husband, was a Mother Extraordinaire, a huge cheerleader of being a Grandmother and helping out in the same way, she approached life. Giving back to Rideau Park United Church as a Sunday School teacher and working with the youth group when her kids were this age, was very important to her. Her faith is very solid and she very much wanted her kids to have the faith that she has. This is her legacy. She will always be the Angel on our shoulder whispering in our ears, keeping us on the right road. The death of her son in 1979 and her stroke in 2011 showed to her family, the incredible Inner Strength that she had. Her determination to move forward will never be forgotten. She worked so hard. You can rest now Mom. The Family would like to thank the outstanding staff at Oakpark Retirement Home and Doctor Ruth Farey for their gentle care and compassion. There will be a Funeral Service at Rideau Park United Church, 2203 Alta Vista Drive, on Sunday, December 16 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of Flowers, please donate to Rideau Park United Church designated to the Douglas Ian Brown Memorial Fund. This fund was created when Doug (son and brother) was accidentally killed in 1979 and the interest on the principal continues to support the Group for Friends. This social group is for physically and mentally challenged adults to get together for a social time at Rideau Park 10 times a year. We are so appreciative of all of the volunteers that make this happen.
Order Flowers
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dorothy Edith
