August 13, 1918 – November 4, 2018
Heuckroth, Doris Clara (nee Walter) ~The family is sad to announce the peaceful passing of Doris Heuckroth on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Chartwell Queen’s Square Retirement Residence in Cambridge following a long and happy life .
Doris had just celebrated her 100th birthday and spent much of the first months of her 100th year surrounded by her loving family and friends. Her passing leaves an enormous void in our lives.
Beloved wife of the late Jack Heuckroth (1983) for 43 years and loving mother of Eleanor Grant-Rowland (Peter Rowland). Doris will be missed by her grandchildren, Laurie Grant (Michael) Jamie Grant, Step-Grandchildren Wendy Rowland (Colin), Jamie Rowland ( Heather) and her pride and joy her great-grandchildren Ellie Peier, William and Taylor Rowland, Ben and Frances Rowland to whom she was Nana, Nani, Grandma Doris, as well as by many nieces and nephews. Doris was the daughter of the late Daniel and Adeline Walter. Dear sister of Jack Walters (Dorothy). Predeceased by brother Floyd Walters, sisters Selina McIlroy, Nellie Good, Myrtle Pletsch.
Doris and Jack travelled throughout Canada, US and Europe, and Doris carried on their love of travel on her own, visiting grandchildren in Japan or travelling with friends to Asia and South America.
Doris loved to cottage and boat in Port Elgin, Muskoka and Georgian Bay, into her late 90’s and she was very social at home too . She loved to entertain and treasured her bridge club get togethers, and a game of Euchre any time. She was very devoted to Wesley Church and headed the Pricilla Unit for many years.
Everyone will have their own special memories of Doris. To her family she was the thread that bound them together with her strength, pride and love. Hers was a life well lived.
Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff and residents at Chartwell Queens Square for their incredible love, care and attention given to Doris for the past two years. Also, our heartfelt gratitude to Donna Donn and friends at Champlain Blvd for their constant concern and care.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coutt’s Funeral Home (519)621-1650. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wesley United Church, Cambridge. On line condolences are welcome at www.couttsfuneralhome.com
