Doreen Lammie Holt October 3 1943 November 23 2018 (age 75)

In the early morning of November 23, 2018, Doreen Holt passed peacefully in her sleep at the Red Deer Hospice. Doreen was 75 years old. Doreen was born on October 3, 1943 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, the daughter of Frank and Linda Lammie (nee Green). Her and her sister Carol were raised on a farm in the Usona District. They attended the small farm community Anthony Hill schoolhouse. Doreen then attended Pigeon Lake High School. As a young person she enjoyed playing softball, then coached and continued playing well into her fifties. Doreen was also an avid and competitive bowler and again also coached youth bowling.
Doreen moved and found work in Ponoka as a waitress and then as a Psych Aide at the Alberta Hospital Ponoka, which is now the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury. Doreen worked the night shift for more than 40 plus years before retiring.
Doreen married Vernon Holt in 1962 and they had three daughters, Laverne, Leanne, and Lorna. She would spend many hours driving and racing them to all the different activities, sports, lessons, and riding events that the girls were involved in, often going without sleep; but never complaining.
After divorce she continued to live in Ponoka and enjoyed creating all the grandchildren’s birthday cakes, Halloween costumes, horseshow outfits and dance costumes. She would attend and help out at many dance competitions and horse shows and found she had time to watch her grandkids participate in their many endeavors. She was naturally talented and had very creative hands, being able to draw, paint, do needlework and sew; often without a pattern and in a moments notice. Doreen also acquired and loved several pets that gave her much joy.
After retirement she finally had time to enjoy travelling. Doreen was fortunate to travel with a group friends on tours to many places, including the Maritimes, Germany, Israel, Mexico Alaska, down into the United States and Hawaii. She traveled with family to Victoria, Disneyland, Jamaica, and Hawaii. She also went to watch her grandchildren dance or play hockey at Disney World, Russia, Sweden, and even touched her homeland soil in Finland. She enjoyed visiting her sister Carol and her husband Glen and families and other relatives out on the West coast. She also traveled south to Phoenix and area with lifelong friend Eileen Kramer and family.
Doreen will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and sons-in-law Laverne (Willie) Klimec, Leanne (Ken) Stebner, and Lorna (Darin) Malmberg. All her grandchildren; Amanda and Matthew Klimec, Carter, Josh and Erin Stebner and Shayla Malmberg. Her sister Carol (Glen) Popp and nephews Daniel (Lauren) and Nathan (Rachael) and their children, Naema, Elijah, Noah, and Tessa; also, the families of Dennis Lammie, Nelson and Pat Lammie and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews from the Lammie and Holt side.
Doreen was predeceased by her parents Frank and Linda, and granddaughter Kaylynn Malmberg.
May God bless the memories we will forever cherish of our mother, sister, grandmother, aunt ad friend.
As per request, a small family service will be held following cremation.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Red Deer Hospice Society or any charity of your choice.
