Doreen Bourget (nee Nichols)
Nana passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, December 3, 2018.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, George; her parents; and brothers James and William. She is survived by her brother Reginald (Irene) and her three children Phillip (Chris), Marian Lewis (Raymond) and Monique Tooth (Glenn). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League from 1950, active in St. Vital Parish in Winnipeg and the Notre Dame Parish in Selkirk. She was a passionate supporter of any cause related to the welfare of animals: the Humane Society and the East Beaches Animal Shelter of Victoria Beach.
An accomplished woman of many talents and interests, she was a geriatric nurse, a gardener, a skilled seamstress and quilter, a carpenter and a painter. Above all else she loved gathering with family and friends at the cottage at Victoria Beach.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St. Selkirk, on Friday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m. with viewing prior to. Private family interment will follow.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Demsas, Melanie of Palliative Care and the nurses and staff of the Medical and Surgical Unit of the Selkirk Regional Health Centre and the paramedics who attended her.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Notre Dame Building Fund, the East Beaches Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
