Lyon, Donald Arthur
1937 – 2018
Donald Arthur Lyon passed away peacefully on April 9, 2018 after a brief illness at the age of 81 years.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Sherry; his daughters Patti (Calvin) Moncrieff and their two sons Devin Moncrieff and Ryan (Jazmin Harvey) Moncrieff, Janice (Henry) Van Hall and their two children Colin Van Hall and Kendal (James Blandford) Van Hall; his brothers Gerald Lyon, Wayne (Wendy) Lyon, Doug (Doris) Lyon and other extended family.
… He was predeceased by his mother Marion Elizabeth (Haynes) Lyon, his father Arthur Robert Lyon and his older brother Roy Lyon.
Don was a welder by trade, trained at SAIT and a farmer for about 50 years in the Parkland and Nanton area. He enjoyed long drives on the backroads of southern Alberta as well as fishing and watching for wildlife. He took pleasure in reading books about local history and the country way of life especially those on ranching in the foothills.
At one time he was a member of The Nanton Gun Club and was fond of downhill skiing. He loved a good game of cards especially crib and especially when he was winning. Don greeted everyone with a firm handshake that with some turned into a competition of strength. He was a member of the early, early morning coffee group down at the local coffee shop among others.
He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Friends and family are invited to join in a “come and go” time of friendship and reflection on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Kozy Korner, 2211 20 St Nanton AB starting at 2:00 pm.
If desired donations can be made in memory of Donald to the Thelma Fanning Memorial Library, 1907 21 Ave, Nanton AB T0L 1R0.
