Wayne passed away peacefully at South Okanagan Regional Hospital Dec. 27, 2017. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Darlene, son Wade (Joanne), daughter Tonya Shurvell, grandchildren Derek, Curtis, Matthew, and Alyssa, and by his sister Audrey Edwards, her husband Jim, and their children Jennifer (Roy) Coffman and Ryan. He was also a loving brother-in-law to Kathleen Snyder and John Petch. He was the favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was born in Victoria, BC, Oct. 28, 1942. He was raised in Regina, SK, and Brandon, MB. He attended York College in Nebraska. After his return to Canada he was employed by Manitoba Hydro. He later accepted a position at Calgary Power (now Transalta Utilities), and lived in several towns in Alberta. When he retired he and Darlene moved to Osoyoos, BC.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents Walter and Edith, his infant son Duane Wendel, his brother Daryl, his foster brother Bill Demyen, his son-in-law Ray Shurvell, and his brothers-in-law Robert Snyder and Thomas Petch.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation would be appreciated.
The family would like to send special thanks to the Palliative Care staff at South Okanagan Regional Hospital and to Dr. Lorraine Kane for their compassionate care of Wayne and their kindness to all of the family.
