The family of Danny Chisholm regrets to announce his passing at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice in Kanata,
Ontario on October 26, 2018 at the age of 85.
Born in New York City he was the only child of the late Dr. Dan and Sarah (Sally) Chisholm. Danny spent
much of his childhood in New York and New Hampshire. After graduation from high school he and his
parents moved to Port Hawkesbury, N.S. where his father conducted a busy general practice for many
years.
Danny attended St. F.X. University followed by two years in the U.S military service. He graduated from
the N.S. Teachers College and taught for a short time in rural Nova Scotia. Subsequently, and following
the death of his father, Danny and his mother moved to Ottawa where he was employed by the Federal
Government until his retirement. Following the death of his mother, Danny and our beloved Aunt Mae
lived in Ottawa for many years. After his retirement, he moved to the Redwoods Retirement Residence
in Ottawa where he remained for the next 14 years.
Danny was an active curler for several years and regularly attended professional sports events. He
also travelled in the summer to visit relatives in the Maritimes and former school friends in New
England. He will be remembered as a quiet and gentle person who gave generously to a variety of
charities. He was a devout Catholic and a member of a variety of parishes related to his residence.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to those who helped Danny in many ways over a long time.
In particular we thank Dr. Catherine Braidek and her staff at the Ottawa Hospital and Dr. Dave Davidson,
his long time family physician. Latterly Danny received outstanding care from Dr. Paul Hacker and the
staff at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice in Kanata, Ont. He also received valued support from the
Directorate and staff at Redwoods.
Arrangements are being coordinated by Greens Funeral Home in Port Hawkesbury with visitation at
the Funeral Home from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Friday Nov.2. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father
Conrad Edwards at St. Joseph’s Church at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, Nov.3. Reception to follow at the
Church. Burial in the parish cemetery in Port Hawkesbury.
In Danny’s memory donations made, be directed to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation or to the
Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
