Obituary Overview
Daniel Grant “Danny” Julien
Julien, Daniel Grant “Danny”, age 58, of West Porters Lake
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our sweet, gentle Danny on February 20, 2018. His loving family was by his side ads he peacefully went into the arms of the Lord. The Angels are being serenaded by the sweet sounds of his fiddle.
Born in Halifax, Danny attended St Pat’s High School and went on to study at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology.
Danny was a machinist at the Halifax Dockyard until he was forced into retirement by the relentless cancer which, as hard as he battled, he could not overcome. He cherished the work at the Dockyard and the many friends that he made over the years. Our thanks to those who showed up to lend their support and to carry out the chores that he could no longer handle. He was too humble to ask for help but, truly appreciated the gestures put forth by so many friends.
Danny was a true history buff and he loved to research the past whether it was Halifax or castles in Europe. He was fortunate enough to travel to Europe 11 times during his life and his passion for history was self-fulfilling and shared with us all. He had a love for his “make and break” putt-putt engines and his collection is truly impressive. Danny was a member of the Association of Small Engines and he relished going to shows once or twice a year to share his knowledge of these unique machines and to be a part of a special group of people that shared the same interests. He joined the British Car Club after purchasing a 1959 Vauxhall that he barely fit into but, was proud to display at shows.
His love of the outdoors was evident by the amount of time he spent at the cottage and hunting and fishing over the years. It brought him true peace and he enjoyed the tranquility.
Danny’s faith was strong and he was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Halifax where he was a server for many years.
More than anything, Danny enjoyed the company and support of his wife Rosemary. She was blessed to be able to share in Danny’s adventures and the two of them were inseparable. Her love for Danny was undeniable and during the six years of his illness, she proved beyond a doubt that love has no bounds. Her love, support and caring compassion brought him through many tough days and prepared him for his next journey. Our hearts go out to her for her tremendous loss.
Danny was predeceased by his parents Alfred Julien and Helen Julien (MacGillvray). He is survived by his wife Rosemary (Isiah); brother Gary (Janet) and their children, Alfie and Sarah; sister Brenda Julien.
