Obituary Overview
Daniel (Dan) Reid
It is with profound sadness that we said goodbye to Dan at St. Paul’s Hospital, on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the age of 68 years.
Left to mourn Dan’s passing are his loving wife of 47 years, Jean and sons Rob (Dawn) and Rick (Perla), and his father Warren. Dan was predeceased by his mother, Daisy Reid.
Born at Prince Albert Hospital, Dan grew up on a farm near Crystal Springs. After completing high school, Dan attended STI in Moose Jaw to become an Electrical Technologist and began his career in the field of engineering.
In 1971 he married Jean Evans and they moved to Winnipeg. It was during this time that they started a family and Dan developed his passion and talent for oil painting.
In 1980 the family moved to Saskatoon. Over the years Dan was regularly involved in his sons’ activities including coaching minor hockey and soccer. For much of his career, Dan worked for Hinz Consulting where he managed the Saskatoon office. He retired in 2014 and was happy to focus on his artwork full time.
An accomplished artist, Dan’s oil paintings were of prairie landscapes, trains and classic cars and he always enjoyed meeting people at the various art shows that he attended every year. Dan supported countless fundraisers for car clubs and charities through his artwork donations.
Dan and Rob enjoyed building their hot rods together and attended many car events every year. Dan was a member of the Saskatoon Antique Auto Club and was closely associated with many other car clubs throughout the province.
Over the years Dan enjoyed family travel, including numerous trips to the mountains, camping trips and cruises. He always valued his coffee visits with friends where he was known for his sense of humour and as a trusted confidant.
A Funeral Service will be held at Park Funeral Home (311, 3rd Avenue North) on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Society or the charity of choice.
