Coates Sr Ernest Haley September 29th 2018

Coates, Sr., Ernest Haley
September 29th, 2018
Feb. 1, 1938 – Sept. 29, 2018
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 29th, 2018 at Westmount Gardens, London, at the age of 80. Beloved husband, for over 58 years, of Mary Linda Coates (nee Playne). Dear father of Ernest Alan Coates (Julie), Jane Marlene Coates Nolan (Tom) and Karen Accettola-Coates. Survived by 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Ronald Coates, Hala Halderman, and Sharon Coates. Ernest joined the RCAF’s telephone communications department and served on radar stations from 1957 to 1963. For the following 5 years, he worked as a paint chemist at Nor-var Paints in Owen Sound. Ernest then joined PPG Industries where he was employed for over 3 decades, retiring in 1999. Ernest was very proud of his adult learning experiences: he attended the University of Missouri (Polymer Chemistry); graduated from the PPG school of Glass Technology; and in 1993, at the age of 55, received his BA from the University of Western Ontario. The Coates family is extremely grateful to the wonderful staff of caregivers at Westmount Gardens in London. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
