Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
KEMICK SUNDBERG, Clayton Andrew
May 10, 1957 – August 21, 2018
Clayton was raised a country boy in southern Saskatchewan where he worked the family grain and cattle business for a number of years after graduating from high school in 1975; it was in this season of his life that he developed a Spartan like work ethic and rigorous self-discipline that would serve him continually throughout his life.
Clayton loved a challenge and throughout his life he had an appreciation for the gym which brought him to competing at a professional level. At age 26, Clayton won the Western Canadian Powerlifting Championship by lifting a hefty 606 lbs.! The following year he competed within the Canadian Heavyweight Arm-Wrestling Championship and placed first. Shortly after, he achieved the top ten for the World Heavyweight Championships held in Las Vegas, Nevada at age 28. Clayton remained physically active all his life. His gym schedule often consisted of an hour of weight lifting 5 days a week. He walked 3kms before breakfast and an additional 3kms in the evening. His consistent determination and admirable health regime kept him a young man during his senior years. Clayton enjoyed being active with family and friends and remained in excellent physical shape. Clayton’s passing is a shock to us all. He passed peacefully in his sleep and through extensive examination no external or internal clinical reasons for passing were found.
Clayton’s diligence and perseverance brought him success in everything he engaged in. In business, he was a master of his craft. He met Carol (his partner in life and business) in Victoria, BC, 1993. Together they started a publishing company that has operated successfully for 25 years. They were engaged three months after they met and were united in marriage on a cruise ship in Florida, September 7, 1997. Their love and respect for each other was beyond words, their close friendship over-flowed with joy and laughter.
Clayton truly lived with an attitude of gratitude. He was always so flexible, happy and content to go with the flow – his compassionate and friendly personality was a guide and help for many. His unwavering patience and generous servant-spirit were expressed throughout his daily life. Clayton’s passion for people was witnessed wherever he walked. It didn’t matter if he knew the person, his generous helping hand would often remain anonymous. He lived, loved and laughed to the fullest!
In all his ability as a loving son, husband, father, brother and friend, Clayton’s patience and love was truly a living example of the Lord he loved. He treasured all his relationships with each and every one of his extended family and friends. The memory of his strong-gentle presence combined with his precious smile will forever remain. Clay is a friend of God, and loved Jesus, his Lord and Savior. He has returned from where he came –
Clayton we miss you, we love you and will forever cherish the brief time we had. Shalom – Amen
