It is with a combination of profound sadness and joyful memories that the extended Galloway family announces the passing of Cecil Albert Galloway, (formerly of Bentley and Lacombe), on December 28 at 94 years of age.
Cecil was born and raised in Altario, Alberta on the family farm to parents Bessie and James Galloway, where he honed his tremendous work ethic, adventurous spirit and the kind of mischief created in a family of seven siblings. He began his 35 year teaching career in a one-room country school near Cereal, Alberta, and retired as vice-principal of Bentley School in 1983. That career was followed by 20 years as a financial advisor. He loved both vocations, as they let him pursue lifelong learning, helping others and most importantly, being with people. Cecil was a very active community member, being part of the Bentley United Church board, the Bentley Elks Club, Alberta Teachers’ Association, numerous community fundraisers and years of coaching school and community sports such as volleyball, basketball, hockey and baseball. He was an active athlete as well, both curling and competing in the Alberta Senior Games up till the age of 91, and playing bocce and carpet bowling until he was 92.
Cecil was a devoted family man, married to Sophie Dziatkewich from 1950 until her passing in 1996, and nurturing an extended family of five children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He joyfully and enthusiastically supported all of them in any endeavors they took on, and participated in every family activity he could. He was a well-loved man with a well-lived life!
Mourning Cecil’s loss are his children Myrna Galloway (Art Walker), David (Linda) Galloway, Lynda (Larry) Chrusch, Brent (Kathleen) Galloway, grandchildren Deanna (Jim) Craig, children Kaitlyn and Laura; Ryan (Vanessa) Galloway, children Sophia and Lily; Michael (Ashley) Chrusch, Stephen Chrusch, Melissa Chrusch, Chris Illingworth and son Jasper; Andrew (Katie) Galloway and daughter Lennon Cecilia; Jordan Galloway, Justine Galloway (fiancé Alex Brown-Reym) and Cecil’s very special lady friend, Helen Zwarich as well many friends, relatives, colleagues and former students.
A celebration of Cecil’s life will be held at St Andrew’s United Church, Lacombe, on Friday, January 5 at 11:00 am with Pastor Marco Ste-Marie officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
There’s still time to send flowers to the Funeral Service at the St. Andrew’s United Church at 11:00 AM on January 5, 2018.
