Obituary Overview
Catherine “Cathie” Cecilia Campbell
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine (Cathie) Cecilia Campbell on July 24, 2018, beloved daughter of Don and Marlene Campbell, dear sister of Kevin (Lori) and aunt of Chelsea and Quinn. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Cathie was born on August 25, 1962 in Edmonton where she lived until the age of two. She spent the remainder of her life in the Calgary area. She graduated from Winston Churchill High School, the University of Calgary and ACAD, where she won the Governor General’s Gold Medal. Sculpture, ceramics and painting were her majors.
She fell in love with horses in her early life and won numerous awards with her two show horses, including tying for 7th place in Working Cow Horse in a class of 49 competitors (mainly boys) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the World Junior Quarter Horse Finals. Most recently, she parlayed her passion for horses into the creation of DMC Stables to provide exceptional horse care and an oasis for boarders.
Cathie loved the outdoors and had many passions – riding horses and skiing being two of them. She also had a passion for wildflowers and raised them commercially for several years. Motorcycling, riding ATVs, and sailing also took her fancy.
When cancer invaded her body, she was still skiing and western dancing and had quality of life until near the end. Cathie was very fortunate that her boyfriend Terryl Pohl and good friends Rochelle Tardif and Taryn Willow were able to enjoy these moments with her and we are grateful for the friendship and loving support they extended to Cathie throughout her declining health. Special thanks go to Dr. Lillian Bartha, the Qualicare caregivers, who were so kind and loving to her in her home, and to the caring staff at Chinook Hospice.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home on August 2, 2018 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to: Cochrane Ecological Institute – PO Box 484, Cochrane AB T4C 1A7 or Bear Valley Rescue – Box 19, Site 6, RR 2, Sundre, AB T0M 1X0
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Catherine Cecilia Campbell 2018.source
