Obituary Overview
Brian Butler
Brian Gerald Butler
(1931-2018)
With sadness, we announce the passing of Brian Gerald Butler. Brian passed away on September 5, 2018 at Riverview Hospital. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his cherished wife, Marion, his sons, Jerry, Jim (Lesley), Gordon (Beth), his daughters, Sheila McClarty (Blake), Cindy Soulsby and his eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Brian was predeceased by his loving son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Monika.
Brian was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He resided there until early adulthood and then his work took him to various locations in Canada with the majority of the family’s time spent in Gimli and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Family, work and friends were the cornerstones of Brian’s life. He had two careers in his lifetime: serving in The Royal Canadian Airforce for twenty-five years and upon retirement from the Airforce working for Cooperators Insurance in the capacity of Vice President. Also, Brian was a board member and President of the Astra Credit Union for a number of years.
Brian always liked being surrounded by family. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and one of his favorite activities was watching their games with family members. He was proud of his children and took special delight in the achievements of his grandchildren. Several months ago, he was thrilled to meet and hold his new great-granddaughter. Brian enjoyed a keen wit and sharp mind right up until his death. He read the daily newspaper cover-to cover and was a fan of mystery novels. Friends mattered to Brian and he was grateful for their support whether through emails or visits to his home. But above all of these things, Brian loved spending time with his wife, Marion.
Brian will be so deeply missed. We will hold onto his memory and love forever.
Thank you to Dr. Dawe and Caitlin, the palliative homecare nurses and the Riverview staff for their expertise and kindness. Brian supported two charities, Siloam Mission and The Agape Table. If friends so wish, a donation may be made to either one of these organizations. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Brian Butler 2018..
