Bradford Elliott “Brad” Forsyth
1922-2018
Bradford Elliott “Brad”
Forsyth – 96, of Berwick, formerly of Auburn, passed away
Thursday, September 13, 2018 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born on
July 28, 1922, he was a son of the late Frederick Albert and Janet
“Jennie” (Bishop) Forsyth. At the age of 18, he was
employed as a golf professional at Ken-Wo Golf Course, New Minas. He
then became a decorated veteran of the Second World War. Following the
war, he became a professional painter and decorator. He was then
employed as a specialized painter and later a carman with the Dominion
Atlantic Railway. He then worked with the Federal Fisheries Department
as a conservation and protection officer. He was also a dairy farmer
and apple grower in Aylesford. He specialized in wood-graining and
examples of his work can be found at the Kentville Courthouse Museum
and the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. He grained steel doors
to look like wood for All Weather Windows and Doors. Brad was a past
president of the Kings County Wildlife Association and was an avid
hunter, fisherman and houndsman. In his retirement years, he enjoyed
golfing and parking his car in the quiet of the mornings and evenings
to watch the geese, ducks and deer. As children growing up, we could
always tell where he was by his whistling, singing or yodeling. He
loved to get out for long drives, getting an ice cream and a hamburger
at the Driftwood Restaurant in Berwick. Throughout his life, he was
very musical, playing guitar, piano and harmonica. In later years,
while at the Manor, he would entertain some of the residents with his
music. He is survived by seven children, Leonard (Clara), North East
Margaree; Carlton (Sharron), Centreville; Marion Louise “Mary
Lou” Davison (Tennyson “Ted”), Centreville;
Sharon Lohnes (Eugene), Millville; Elaine Davison (Roy Freake), Fogo
Island, NL; Debbie Gibson (Craig), Kingston; Deanna (Tim Loney),
Morden; 21 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; three great great
grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Evangeline
Joy (Hennigar), who he faithfully visited and helped with her meals
for her last 10 years, while she was a resident at Grand View Manor;
daughter, Gail Marie; grandson, Bradford Christopher Gibson (infant
son of Debbie and Craig Gibson); half-brother, John
“Gordon” Shaw; sister, Jessie (Forsyth) Martin;
brother, George Frederick Forsyth. Visitation will be held from 6-8
