Suddenly, with family by her side, our beloved mom, grandmother and great-grandmother, Blanche Harper, aged 88 years passed away at the Tri Lake Hospital in Killarney on December 9, 2018
Blanche was born in Westbourne, Manitoba. On March 21, 1930 where she lived with her birth mother and birth father until adopted by Hugh and Maude Enyart.
She grew up in Matlock, Manitoba where she attended school. Blanche worked at many different jobs in her life from working on the Kenora as a cook, Booth Fisheries, Ninette Sanitarium in the kitchen, as a cook in bush camp and Eaton’s in Winnipeg.
Blanche met and married Peter Harper and together they built their home by Matlock, Manitoba. They started the Matlock Metis Local in 1967. She was very proud of her Metis Status, later becoming an Elder for the Manitoba Metis Foundation. After a period of time in Baldur, Manitoba, she moved to Selkirk. While in Selkirk, she met Jim McRae and they became good friends. Blanche attended numerous Metis meetings and would often say the opening prayers. She loved the dancers, the fiddling, old time music and going to crib with Jim at the Legion.
