Beverly (Bev) Cowie
COWIE, Beverly Anne Mary (Msko Nimkii Binesii Kwe – Red Thunderbird Woman) – passed away suddenly in her 62nd year at her home in the Mississisauga community of Hiawatha First Nation. Bev was the loving and devoted mother to Richelle Weekes (Christopher Weekes) and Chadwick Cowie (Daniel Brett). Nana to Tyson, Trent, and Amilee Weekes. Sister to Georgina Rogers (predeceased by Terry Rogers), Derrick Cowie, Duane Cowie, Darrin Cowie, Christa Lewis (Mike), and Cynthia Gray-Brady (Jeff). Auntie to Frankie Cowie, Aries Volpe, Lindsay Peterson, Minden Peterson, Charles Cowie, Connor Cowie, and Tatum Cowie. Great Auntie to Jasmine, Jayde, Rayne, Carter, Bryden, Joshua, CJ, and Linkoln and a Traditional ‘Auntie’ and ‘Mom’ to many others as is our custom. Bev is predeceased by her parents George and Frances (Sproul) Cowie, Grampy (George Cowie Sr.), her sister Susan Peterson, brother-in-law Ronald Peterson, and her brothers Gerald and Kirk Cowie. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, Ontario K9J 1C5 (705-745-6164) on Wednesday July 25th from 6-9pm and on Thursday, July 26th from 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral service in the chapel at 11:00 A.M. Burial to follow at Hiawatha First Nation Cemetery with reception after at the Hiawatha First Nation Administration Building – Lower Hall.
Bev sought to help and assist many throughout her life – whether working/volunteering with Women’s shelters in Peterborough and London Ontario; her role within the Canadian Arm Forces (Retiring as a Sargent in 1992), or fostering animals. If desired, memorial donations can be made to: The Peterborough Humane Society, The Royal Canadian Legion (Hastings Branch 106), and/or to one of Peterborough’s Women’s Shelters and can be arranged through the STODDART FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay, Ontario K9V 2L1 (705-324-3205).
