Bessie Sayre Sweezey
1917 – 2018
Surrounded by the love of her family and in the warmth of her home of a lifetime, Bessie Sayre Sweezey died peacefully, just past midnight on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the age of 101.
Bessie was born January 22, 1917 at “The Yard” in Jardineville, Kent Co to the late John A Orr and A. Laura (Palmer) Orr. She resided all her life in Loggieville (Miramichi) where her parents had relocated years before her birth.
Bessie was a devoted mother and grandmother who instilled a love for nature and inspired her family with her artistic talents. As a former member of Knox United Church, Bessie was a long time Choir member, Sunday school teacher, Mission Band leader, and UCW member. She continued as a member of the UCW at St. Andrew’s United Church.
Bessie was predeceased by her husband, George A. Sweezey, her grandson, Christopher, her three sisters, Ruth Loggie, Jennie MacLennan and Frances Reid and her one brother, H. Fred Orr.
Bessie is survived by her four sons, Art (Barbara) of Moncton, Paul, with whom she resided, of Miramichi, Doug (Susan) of Miramichi and David (Becky) of Quispamsis. She is also survived by seven grandsons, Erik, Kent, Mark, Philip, Kevin, Jonathan and Matthew Sweezey, and six great grandchildren, Ryan, James, Cameron, Ben, Kate and Sloan Sweezey.
Visitation for Bessie will be held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 2-4 ONLY. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 11 am from St. Andrew’s United Church, Miramichi, with Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight officiating. Interment will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery.
