Life Story for
Bernice Victoria Schneider
Bernice Victoria Schneider, 94, passed peacefully in her sleep, at home in Gadshill, on November 5, 2018. Bernice was born in Logan Township to Flossie & Milton Oppenhauser, on October 24, 1924. She attended Mitchell District Highschool and graduated with a business diploma and worked as a legal secretary in Monkton. She married Frederick Schneider (deceased) in 1945 and worked alongside him on their dairy farm in Ellice Township, before retiring to Milverton in 1978. Bernice was a member of the Kuhryville Women’s Institute as well as a long-time member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Some knew her as the avid card shark she was, frequenting the Diner’s Club in Brunner and taking top prize at Military Whist. She also enjoyed playing cards with her great grandchildren – sometimes she would even let them win! Bernice was a very accomplished seamstress, quilter and thoroughly enjoyed knitting/crocheting her grandchildren and great grandchildren their “baabaas.” She kept up with the times and for her 85th birthday she received her first laptop, which she used to keep tabs on all her friends and family on Facebook. It also proved to be a good tool for sharpening her card skills with many games of solitaire. Some of her happiest times were those in which she was surrounded by family. Bernice was very proud to be the Matriarch of the family for five generations and never missed an opportunity to snap a photo. She was a great inspiration to all those she met as she had a zest for life that was contagious. She will be dearly missed.
Besides her parents and her husband, Bernice is predeceased by her brother Earl Oppenhauser, sister Blanch (Ian) McLean, brothers-in-law Scott McLean, Percy Schneider, Lloyd Schneider, Bill O’Hara and Orville Schramn and her son Charles Schneider. She is survived by her daughter Joan (David) Mohr, son Don (Jan) Schneider, daughter-in-law Myrna Roberts, sister Lois McLean, sisters-in-law Jean Oppenhauser, Pody Schneider, Pearl Schramn, and Myra O’Hara. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Angela Schneider, Chris Schneider, Heidi (Mike) Becks, Michelle (Ron) Kerr, Leanne (Mark) McCann and Harley Schneider, as well as twenty great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Until we meet in another lifetime Bernice – “right-o”.
