Bernice Marie Nicholas
1983-2018
Bernice Marie Nicholas – age 35 of Pictou Landing
First Nation, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018. Bernice was
born on July 29, 1983. She was a daughter of Harriet Nicholas,
Wekogmaq and Noel Nicholas, Pictou
Landing.
Bernice’s family life began, when she met
her common-law husband Joey Mills, also from Pictou Landing. Together,
they had three beautiful children Sonya, Ashlyn, and Nina. She was a
passionate and loving mother, always doing her best to provide for her
children. Bernice was known to be very friendly, she had a welcoming
presence to her with the most contagious smile and
laughter.
Bernice was a seasonal fisherwoman, and took on other
employment opportunities off season. She was currently employed
at the Wolf’s Den, she was also a skilled
carpenter. Bernice loved planting, taking adventures, enjoyed baking
and taking part in community events. Bernice participated in the
Mi’kmaq Summer Games which she excelled in. She will always
be remembered for her loving and caring ways. She will be forever
missed by her family and friends.
She was survived by her daughters Sonya, Ashlyn and
Nina, all of Pictou Landing; a brother Noel Nicholas, a sister Laura
Nicholas, Pictou Landing, also many aunts and uncles and
cousins.
Predeceased by a niece Nova Rose Lynn Nicholas; her
maternal grandparents the late Mary and Andrew Bernard (Wekogmaq) and
paternal grandparents Ella Mae and Joseph Nicholas (Pictou
Landing).
Visitation will be held after 7 pm on Saturday, in
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing. Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Monday in Our Lady of
Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church with father Tom MacNeil
officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Donations
in her memory may be made to the Diabetes’s
Association.
Dinner and Salite will follow at the
gymnasium.
