Obituary of Arthur Andres
Andres, Arthur (Art) – At the age of 81, of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, graduated to his eternal home with His Saviour Jesus, on December 31, 2017 at home in Niagara-on-the-Lake with his beloved wife Helen Andres and children at his side.
Funeral service will be held at Bethany Mennonite Church on Thursday, January 4 at 11 a.m. Family interment will take place at Niagara Lake Shore Cemetery prior to the service. Visitation will be held at Bethany Mennonite Church, 572 East/West Line, Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Wednesday, January 3, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8p.m.
Art was born in Niagara-on-the-Lake to William and Elizabeth Andres on June 22, 1936 with his twin brother Fred. He went to high school at Eden Christian College and graduated in 1954. He is well known as a local hockey star, playing with the Virgil Cubs in the 1950’s. The twins farmed together from 1960 to 1989. From 1989 until the present, Art devoted his life to volunteer work in the church and community as well as his passion for choir singing. He is known for his generous and kind heart to many people.
Art is survived by Helen, his loving wife and helpmate of 48 years. He leaves his children Sharon (Rudy Dirks), Ken (Paula) Andres, Christine (Marv Franz), and Joanne (Christopher Vella). Nine grandchildren and their spouses will really miss Gramps: Nathan (Taryn Dirks), Shawna (Keith McDonald), Mark (Dana) Andres, Stephanie (Kevin Niessen), Ashley (Corbin Thwaites, Brandon Andres, Jillian, Curtis and Braelyn Franz. Art would have loved to spend more time with his great-grandchildren, Owen, Everett and Isabelle Niessen; Noelle and Alannah McDonald, Malakai Dirks and Jaxon Thwaites.
He is predeceased by his first wife Elvira Andres (1967) and an infant son Timothy Scott (1973). Also his parents and brothers Bill, John and Hank. He leaves to mourn his twin brother Fred, brothers Walt and Buddy and sisters Lena VanBergen, Mary Janzen, Louise Rogalsky, Margie Enns, Kathy Neufeld.
