Arthur Ralph Powell
March 23, 1941 – November 30, 2018
It is with much sadness and deep love that we announce the death of Arthur (Art) Ralph Powell, at the age of 77. He will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife Lorraine, and is survived by his son Bruce (Anne Marie), his step children George Mehrfert, Kathy Nadeau (Brian), Franz Mehrfert (Elvira), Peter Mehrfert (Heather), and Tracy Wedel (Dean), grandchildren Kate, Emma, Brandon, Josh, Amelie, Mattias, Tristan and Everett, and by his sister Marilyn Pullan (Bill), and numerous nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Dorothy Powell, his brother George Powell, and his two young sons Christopher and John.
Art was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and grew up in North Vancouver, BC. During life’s journey, Art worked as a journalist in Canada and the UK, taught English as a second language in Brussels, returned back to University to complete a degree in Economics. He returned to worked as a Journalist, and also became an Industrial First Aid Attendant while his wife Lorraine went back to University. Later in life Art enjoyed pottery, wood turning, writing, reading and living in the home he and Lorraine built together in the Kingfisher area of Mable Lake. His favourite phrase was “There is such a lot of living to do.”
A “Celebration of Life” service will be held for Art at St. Andrew’s United Church in Enderby, BC on December 22, 2018, at 11:00 am, followed by a light lunch. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish can donate to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, to St. Andrew’s United Church, or to the MacKenzie Camp Society.
