William George Apostoliuk (1930-2018)
Born October 23, 1930, in Nelson, BC. Bill was proud to be a native son. After school days, Bill embarked into the automotive industry at Peebles Motors. With a partner, Bill Openshaw, they opened Bill’s Motor Inn in 1959, selling Studebakers, later taking on a Nissan franchise.
He met his life partner, Claudia Smith, in high school, and later married and had three sons, Mark (Lovette), Grant (Kathy), Scott (Lisa) and grandchildren, Kaylee, Tori, Jacob, Brendan, Lisa and Jessica.
During this time Bill was a member of the JC’s, Elk and Gyro club. As a member of the Nelson Golf Club, including 24 years on the executive, Bill was awarded a lifetime membership. Golf was a passion that he enjoyed for more than 70 years. Bill became known on the course as “Birdie Bill” for obvious reasons. He sponsored a Bills Motor Inn golf tournament at one point that was held on the 24th of May. He also served on the Nelson School Board. He was very proud that he could do Sudoku with a pen. Bill and Claudia became avid skiers and enjoyed skiing with friends at Whitewater.
He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 3, 2018. The family would like to thank the Doctors, and especially, the third floor nursing staff at KLH. Donations may be made to the British Columbia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Thompson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.thompsonfs.ca
