Annie MacRae 1911 2018

Obituary for
Annie MacRae
MacRae, Annie (Anne)
(nee Bruce)
Mom passed away peacefully at home with one of her sons at her side on June 28, 2018 halfway into her 107th year.
She was born in Berwick upon Tweed, England on December 11, 1911 and sailed to Canada with her parents James and Mary Bruce and her older brother Victor in May 1914.
The family settled in Regina where she eventually became a secretary with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool during the 1930’s.
On January 5, 1942 she married David MacRae of Calgary, an aviator in the RCAF. She continued doing secretarial work in Calgary until David’s return from over seas and his discharge in 1945.
For the next three years they lived in Calgary and later in Saskatoon with a son being born in each of those cities.
In 1948 the family moved to Brantford as a consequence of Dad’s position as manager with Cockshutt Farm Equipment.
Mom was a wise, diligent and loving parent and homemaker who also managed to work as a well regarded pharmacy assistant at the Brantford General Hospital from 1961 until her retirement in 1976.
In retirement, Mom and Dad got to travel widely in the U.S. and Canada including Hawaii, Alaska and the Yukon as well as Scotland and England.
They remained a faithful and devoted couple for 60 years of marriage until his passing in March 2002.
As a widow, Mom managed her own life reasonably well for most of her remaining years. Her gentle stoicism, courteous respect for others and remarkable physical and emotional resilience were likely why and how she journeyed so well for so long with such quite dignity to such a great old age.
She was a wonderful mother and a profoundly decent human being.
