‘Anne with an E’
October 16, 1926 – December 9, 2018
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our sweet Anne. She died peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning at Crofton Manor in Vancouver. Anne was pre-deceased by her husband, Newt, of 48 years, her brother Dr. Robert Munn, brothers-in-law Norman Hopkins and Doug Woodley, and sister-in law Helen-Mary Hopkins. Anne is survived by her sisters-in-law Elizabeth Munn and Reta Woodley (Kelowna); nieces and nephews Cammy Nielsen (Chris), Robyn Hall (Robert), Jonathan Munn (Pamela), Susan Munn Milelli (Paul), Rod Hopkins (Niki), Brian Hopkins (Marie-Claude), M.L. Hopkins (Trish), Scott Woodley, Richard Woodley (Brenda), Janice Furiak (Bruce) and numerous great nieces and nephews who considered her their ‘special grandmother’. Anne was born in Vancouver, graduated early from Kitsilano High School and went on to graduate from UBC where she was an Alpha Gam. Anne worked for BC Tel for many years, married Newt Hopkins in 1964 and taught pre-school in Nanaimo and North Vancouver. She and Newt travelled the world, housed numerous Rotary International Youth Exchange students and loved to host good friends and family in their home. Anne loved to golf, belonged to Probus, and set up the ‘Anne (Munn) and Newton Hopkins Bursary in Arts and Chemical Engineering at UBC’. The family would like to thank special friends Ivor and Maureen Frederiksen for their constant loving support and Barb Groundwater for her weekly visits. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Crofton Manor-Christian, Lioness, Ren, Sally, Celia and the Myrnas, Anne loved you and we couldn’t have done this without you. Interment and a Celebration of life will follow in the new year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anne and Newt Hopkins Bursary in Arts and Chemical Engineering at UBC or the charity of your choice.
