MEYER, ANNA (nee McDonald) LGCHS
Passed away peacefully on January 17, 2018 at Providence Healthcare at the age of 90. Born in Toronto on March 16, 1927. Loving wife of James “Jim” for over 50 years. Survived by sister Mary McDonald and brother Alexander McDonald. Predeceased by her sister Catherine Bolger and brothers William Joseph, Joseph J., John and Edward. She is sadly missed by 42 nieces and nephews and their families. Anna was a former training director for Sears and was responsible for the hiring of staff for the new Winnipeg store. She toured Ontario as a member of the Leslie Bell Singers and played many parts in various Gilbert and Sullivan productions, specializing in the role of Katishaw. She participated in the CBC weekly Children’s Radio series. In 1966 she became Women’s Editor of CKNX Television in Wingham, Ont. She researched and hosted the daily afternoon “Anna Meyer Television Program” and a morning radio call-in show. Her warm voice and acting ability were in constant demand at district fund-raising and charity events. She was a supporter of the Cancer Society and featured Children’s Aid difficult adoptions on her shows. In 1978 she returned to Toronto where, along with her husband, produced and hosted 32 episode “You Really Can” television series. The first to completely renovate an entire house for the benefit of do-it-yourselfers. It was the first “do-it-yourself” television program showing to completely renovate an entire home. Meyer Visual Productions produced industrial films, established the Freezing Information Bureau and produced a highly successful freezer cook book. Anna was a co-founder of Wirefab Industries, a Past-President of the Catholic Women’s League, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Serra Club of Toronto Downtown. She was a Lady Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She was noted for her friendly smile and outgoing personality. Never would she leave anyone sitting alone at a function without engaging them in conversation to make them feel welcome and at home. Friends and family will be received at HERITAGE FUNERAL CENTRE, 50 Overlea Blvd. (416) 423-1000 on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in The Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure at 11 am on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Private cremation will take place at a later date.
