Obituary Overview
Forever In Our Hearts
Angelina (Angie) died peacefully on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 in the care of the Palliative Care Unit at Pasqua Hospital in Regina.
Angelina Rose was born to Alfons and Clara Greter in 1936, the third of 5 children and the only girl. The family farmed around Chamberlain, SK, moving into town during the years Alfons served in the Army. Angie received most of her education in Chamberlain, but moved to Regina to complete high school at Balfour Technical School, focusing on secretarial and accounting studies. After graduating, she worked for the Department of Education and Public Health, until she married Bud Kostur, in 1956.
As a young wife and mother, Angie dedicated her life to her family. There are so many ways to describe Angie. Devoted mother and grandmother, lover of animals, “owner” of cats, crafts person and seamstress extraordinaire, Saskatchewan defender, computer game enthusiast, avid reader, baker of cookies, collector of knickknacks, debater of ideas, Rider fan, knitter of blankets, whimsical wit, giraffe aficionado. But, one word readily comes to mind that defines Angie in all of her characterizations, and that word is “nurture.”
The art of mothering is in teaching your children the art of living, and Angie taught her daughters well. Angie had a gift for turning every occasion into a special one. Special memories include lining up to enter the living room on Christmas morning, youngest to oldest; celebrating birthdays with elaborate cakes studded with wax paper-wrapped coins, the piece with the largest denomination always making its way to the birthday child; decorating the Christmas tree (balls first, followed by the special ornaments, the tinsel and finally, the icicles, no clumping allowed!); sewing everything, from matching outfits, to Barbie clothes, to dance costumes; shepherding her daughters to piano, dance, and swimming lessons, and overseeing practice sessions; proofreading essays during those university crunch times, with a cup of tea always at the ready. One special gift she passed on to her daughters is the love of reading.
Her family was her life, and once she became a grandmother, Angie continued the tradition of celebrating occasions by making handmade gifts for her grandchildren.
Angelina was predeceased by her brothers Peter Greter, Alfons Greter, and Robert Greter. She is survived by her brother Frank Greter; daughters Sharon Whiting (Larry Whiting), Sandra Kostur, Pamela Kostur (Paul LeBel), Jenifer Kostur; and grandchildren Caitlin Whiting, Michael Whiting, Christine Whiting, Noelia Kostur and Amanda Kostur.
The family wishes to thank the excellent team at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit, who showed caring and compassion in a difficult time. They treated Angie with dignity and respect, and demonstrated that palliative care is more about living than it is about dying. Special thanks go out to nurses Rose, Alex, Maria, and Meghan.
We will miss you, but you’ve earned your rest, Angie. You spent your life devoted to nourishing, sheltering, comforting, and loving us. We will feel your love every time we huddle under the blankets you made for us, every time we wrap ourselves in a handmade sweater, and every time we celebrate an occasion with one of your recipes, or hang one of your special ornaments on our Christmas tree. Your traditions live on in our hearts, and in our homes.
Family and friends are encouraged to make a donation to the Regina Humane Society (reginahumanesociety.ca) or to the Arthritis Society (www.arthritis.ca).
