VAN OOSTEN, Andrew Charles, January 28, 1976-October 17, 2018: Andrew passed away peacefully, on October 17, 2018, succumbing to his third battle with Cancer; with his loving wife, Jana, and his precious children, Bailey and Brayden, at his side. He was predeceased by his Grandparents Ursula and Charlie Yeates, and Anna and Gerrit Van Oosten; His God Parents, Aunt Juanita and Uncle John (Babineau); his Uncle Albert (Ena) Van Oosten; his Uncle Gerry Van Oosten; and his Auntie Anne Van Oosten; his dear Father-in-law, Ted Butt, whom he loved, admired and respected and his infant twin brothers John Michael Van Oosten, and Paul Gerald Van Oosten, (l964).
Andrew was born in North Bay, but moved to Sesekinika in 1976, at six months old, with his family; where he resided most of his life. He went away to University in Sudbury for four years, returning to the area for a brief period, living and working in Englehart. He then spent 4 years living and working in Toronto before returning home to run for the Federal Conservative Party in the 2004 election. He worked as the C.A.O. for the Town of Matachewan from 2005-2015, at which time he had to resign for health reasons. On January 31st, 2014 he and Jana purchased MacPherson’s General Store in Kenogami.
Andrew enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, ATV trips, hunting and his annual ‘Festivus for the Rest of Us’! He was happiest when house and yard were overflowing with guests and his laughter was infectious. He was community minded and served with the Sesekinika Volunteer Fire Department and the Maisonville Local Services Board. Most of all he cherished alone time with his loving wife and children, as well as special celebrations with extended family, especially at Christmas, birthdays and other holidays. Andrew always tried to be a good and faithful friend and he valued the friendship of others.
Andrew was very grateful to all those who remained at his side when he needed them the most and you know who you are!
